Mr. Jhakka Prasad Acharya assumed the responsibility of the Consul General of Nepal for West Bengal, India on 1 December 2024.
As a key government official of Nepal, he possesses extensive experience and exposure on Public Finance, Human Resource Management, Home Affairs, and Public Administration. During his early years of careers, he served in the Ministry of Finance, where he held crucial responsibilities in tax-related services and revenue collection. He also held human resource management responsibilities within the ministry.
He also worked in Public Service Commission of Nepal in the capacity of Joint Secretary, where he focused on the recruitment of human resources for security organizations and corporate bodies. He, subsequently, returned to the Ministry of Finance, contributing at the policy level across various divisions. His experience also includes Central and provincial-level budget formulation and governance management.
During his long tenure from Section Officer to Under Secretary and ultimately to Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Nepal, he gained substantial expertise in tax, trade, budget formulation, and the preparation of economic legislation, particularly related to taxation. Besides, he has a rich experience in labor diplomacy of Nepal.
In addition to that, Mr. Acharya has extensive experiences of working in various government organizations of Nepal including Ministry of Home Affairs as Joint Secretary and Chief District Officer, Department of National ID and Vital Registration as Director General, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security as Joint Secretary, in different Ministries of Karnali Province as Province Secretary and Inland Revenue Department as Director General.
Before assuming his responsibility as the Consul General, he briefly joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal as Joint Secretary.
He has participated in a number of national and international trainings including those conducted in India, China, USA, Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, etc.
Mr. Acharya has been awarded dignified honours and accolades by the Government of Nepal, notably including Civil Service Prize-2015 and Suprabal Janasewa Shree-2023 (Gold Medal conferred by the President of Nepal).
The Consul General Acharya holds Masters Degrees in Public Administration and Economics, both from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
Mr. Acharya and his wife Mrs. Sita Acharya have three children.
